Go Inside the CSX Exhibit at the National FFA Convention & Expo

Now this is cool.

CSX exhibited at the 87th National FFA Convention & Expo last fall with a huge booth that took FFA members through every step of transporting agricultural goods in the U.S. From trains to trucks, the interactive setup showed FFA members how the whole process works — and what types of careers make the important journey possible.

Oh, and FFA members who completed the tour had a nice reward: some popcorn and chicken nuggets!

Be on the lookout this fall for CSX (a proud platinum-level FFA sponsor) at the 88th National FFA Convention & Expo!

Vote FFA in Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship Film Festival

Video is a stirring communication tool, and it’s one that the Boston College Center for Corportate Citizenship wants to recognize as a way to show the difference people can make around them. FFA Members Participate in CSX Santa Train

FFA sponsor CSX donates gifts to families and kids with the Santa Train

The first time Tennessee state FFA officer Rebekah Wright heard about the Santa Train, she was a bit unsure.

“I was excited yet nervous because I was not sure what to expect. I knew I was about to get on a train and serve different communities in different states, but I was definitely not prepared for what was in store!”

The 71st Santa Train – a community service initiative of CSX – kicked off in Pikeville, Ky., in November. Traveling 110 miles through Appalachia, the train made 14 stops in Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee where FFA members stood alongside CSX Transportation employees and Santa Claus, giving away over 15 tons of toys to families. CSX organizes the event annually and teamed up with Dignity U Wear, Food City and the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce to make this one of the best years yet. Continue reading

CSX supports National Teach Ag Campaign through National FFA Foundation

teach ag

CSX is supporting the recruitment and retention of agriculture, food and natural resource sciences teachers by sponsoring the National Teach Ag Campaign. This sponsorship is part of the company’s more than $1 million commitment to a variety of agricultural education and FFA programs through the National FFA Foundation.

The National Teach Ag Campaign is an initiative to raise awareness of career opportunities in agricultural education, encourage others to consider a career as an agriculture teacher, retain current agriculture teachers, and celebrate the positive contributions that agriculture teachers make in their schools and communities.

“CSX values the important role of agriscience teachers,” said Todd Greenwood, director of corporate contributions at the National FFA Foundation. “CSX’s investment in the National Teach Ag Campaign is vital to addressing the critical nationwide shortage of agriscience teachers – especially now when enrollment in secondary agriscience courses and FFA membership is at an all-time high.”

CSX and FFA spread holiday cheer in Appalachia

By Rheba Howard

Click-clack, click-clack. A blue engine emblazoned with the yellow letters CSX whirs through rural Appalachia. A shrill horn sounds, announcing to the crew they will be arriving soon. The roar of the crowd is heard, “Santa! Santa!” The door opens on the last car and out steps the man in red himself, Santa Claus. Parents push to get closer to the end train car, to the platform where Santa is handing out stuffed animals and books. To them this is Christmas. The look of determination on their faces as they try to get their little ones a toy is heart-wrenching, for without this, their child may not get anything for Christmas. The Santa Train, run by CSX, provides more than just toys. It provides Christmas hope.santa train

CSX, a platinum-level FFA sponsor, runs the Santa Train every year in mid-November through the mountains of Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee. This year marked the 70th anniversary of the train. Started in 1943, the train consists of an engine and 10 restored Pullman passenger cars and runs on 110 miles of track. The train stops at 14 locations, spending 15-20 minutes at each stop. CSX employees, FFA staff and country music stars volunteer to pass out more than 15 tons of gifts along the way. The gifts range from small toys and snacks to age-specific duffle bags, which are popular for families with infants and babies. Joy lights the eyes of the children as they receive a toy from Santa. CSX works hard to help those they serve lead better lives by building up their communities and their morale.

FFA and CSX have built a strong partnership through this idea of service to others. Just as FFA builds young leaders by teaching leadership and giving self-confidence, CSX builds up the communities around them. The shared belief in personal growth, premier leadership and career success has united CSX and FFA. This is CSX’s second year of FFA sponsorship and first year at the platinum level. Through their sponsorship, CSX supports a variety of FFA programs including the Washington Leadership Conference, the National Collegiate Agriculture Ambassadors, the Job Interview Career Development Event and others. FFA is proud to share this spirit of building up others with supporters like CSX.
