The senior agriculture class at Cochrane- Fountain City High School in Fountain City, Wis., is about as organized as a class can be. Case in point: They planned their senior trip four years in advance.
The class held fundraisers – including Comedy Night, a fish fry and a Chicken Q – to fund their trip. FFA members worked together to prepare all of the events, organizing and planning food and activities and selling tickets.
They collected more than $12,000 in funding, and the entire class went on the trip. They spent six days exploring California culture and visited five different agricultural businesses, including Harris Ranch, Joseph Fillippi Winery, Van Dam Dairy, Callisto Greenhouses and Red Rock Ranch.
The class also took a guided tour of Yosemite National Park, touring many of Yosemite’s landmarks, including the rocks of Half Dome and El Capitan and Bridalveil Fall. When the trip was over, the students agreed it was a perfect blend of education, adventure and fun.
The Cochrane – Fountain City High School FFA chapter was a finalist in the 2010 National Chapter Models of Innovation Awards program.
